The Livelihood assistance to Northern people affected by war should be improved, Jaffna Actg Mayor requests German Team

The German delegation for Industrial and commerce Development, AHK Lanka met the Actg Mayor of Jaffna on the last 28th and had discussions with him.

The delegation led by Andreas said that they had visited the North in order to get cooperation for developing Industrial and commercial sectors which are found with setbacks.

By developing the local productions , especially by improving the sectors like fisheries and Agriculture, the production could be increased and the products could be exported directly from the Jaffna Peninsula and thereby foreign exchange could be earned.

More employment could be provided and direct marketing opportunities abroad found for local traders.

They also indicated the need for economic and training facilities for fishermen and farmers and the need for improving the housing facilities of the fishermen in the coastal areas.

The acting Mayor had pointed out the livelihood of Tamil fishermen being affected by migratory Sinhala fishermen and the Army undertaking agriculture in the lands of public within High Security Zone.

The delegation had said that the request of the Actg. Mayor are very constructive and they will consider his suggestion while planning for their projects.
