The Marine resources of Mullaitheevu are being exploited. These resources belongs to the fishermen of the District. The southern fishermen, with the connivance of government officials and politicians of Mulaitheevu, are exploiting these resources. Although decisions were taken in several meetings regarding this, no action as such is taken. Hence swift action should be taken regarding the problems of the Mulaitheevu Fishermen, the Fishermen had said in another letter sent to the CM. This letter had been sent after CC meeting for Karaithuraipattu, held recently.
Elaborating further they had said that, an important problem placed at the CC meeting held on 26th February, was that the migration of southern fishermen should be banned. It was said then that a committee will be formed and action taken. But no action had been taken.
More than 50 boats have come now. This may be increased to hundreds of boats. Our problems are only solved verbally. Our fishermen should live peacefully and raise their livelihood. Other Districts are being developed by exploiting our resources. The Mulaitheevu District Director of Department of Aqua Resources is not seemed to be taking any action regarding this.
They have requested the CM to considering the interests of the District fishermen and take action to make relevant Officers to take speedy action in this matter.
Copies of the letter had been sent to the District Secretary, NP Minister of Fisheries, Vanni MPs and members of the Provincial Council.
