The meeting with President on TPPs not satisfactory & Jaffna University students to go on Boycott of Classes

The University students who had meeting with the President on five demands including one that called for immediate fulfillment of the demands of the fasting TPPs said that the meeting was not satisfactory and greatly disappointing.

Students of all faculties have gone into a boycott of classes from yesterday, demanding that the President promise within the requested time.

The five demands we submitted to the president included transferring TPPs cases to Vavuniya or Jaffna Court, Stop locking TPPs with Sexual Offenders and Death row prisoners, Releasing unconditionally all the TPPs through President’s Executive powers, revocation of PTA, and compensation be paid to the two students shot dead by the police and deliver justice to the students.

Although the president said he needed time till Wednesday we told him the decision should made within Monday and we waited there till Monday. As no decision was given on Monday we have gone into boycott of classes they said.
