A case has been filed by the members of the Northern Province Public Service Commission in the High Courts against Northern Governor, Suren Ragavan.
When the sitting of the PSC was in progress on the 27th of last month, the Governor had asked the members of the PSC to meet him and when they met him he had asked them to resign their posts. The members had refused to resign. Thereafter the Secretary of the Commission had sent letters to the members indicating that the Governor had asked them to resign. Subsequent to the refusal of the members for this also, the Governor declared that the Commission had been dissolved.
As per the Constitution, although the authority for appointing the members of the Commission has been vested with the Governor, he has not been granted power to dismiss them unless suitable reasons are put forward and clearly proved.
Members could resign their post on their own will.
Hence the members have filed the case against dissolving the PSC without appropriate reasons.
