Merciless attack by police on Kudaththanai,Malikaiththidal Villagers- More than 3 injured
The villagers of Malikaithidal in Kudaththanai of Vadamaradchchi East, were mercilessly attacked by the police , who accused the villagers of sand smuggling. 3 had been seriously injured and admitted to Manthikai Base Hospital and several others who had been injured had restricted themselves to their homes due to fear of repercussions.
This incident had occurred on Friday morning.
On that day police who came to the area had identified the owner of a vehicle parked in the area and accused him of sand smuggling. Denying the charges the owner had requested police to inspect the engine of the vehicle.
When the police continued to accuse him, the owner had taken photographs of the police men who came there. Angered by this the police had captured the cell phone. Following the owner and the area people showing opposition and started asking questions the police had returned the phone.
Later on Friday the police had gone again to this area inspected the documents related to the vehicle and had said that they are take the vehicle to police station. Heavy arguments ensued between the police and the area people and the owner.
In this context the police had started to attack the people fiercely without any discrimination children, women and the aged. One woman had dropped unconscious and several others were sereiously in injured and admitted to hospital in ambulances.
Video and photographic evidences of the incident had been immediately dispatched to the Coordinator of Human Rights Commission by media men. Several injured people had avoided going to hospital due to fear of repercussions, it is learnt.
