Messentry as Gut brain or Abdominal Hypothalamus

Messentry as an organ has the vital physiological function in the abdomen. It can be described as abdominal hypothalamus and as abdominal heart.

Abdominal Mind or Gut brain is placed by messentry as mind possess at either heart or brain.

Messentry is functioning as abdominal hypothalamus. Its enteric nervous system synchronize the digestion, absorption and excretion. Further synthesis of hormones, growth factors, cytokines also controlled by the mesentry. Mesenteric Enteric Nervous System communicates with central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous system.

Enteric Nervous system Control is the function of the small bowel.    It coordinates digestion, absorption, secretion, blood flow and motility.

It contains 108 Neurons (Equal to Spinal Cord) Messentric Neural Mechanism is medicated by following way.

  1. Neuro active Mediators and receptors.
  2. ION channels
  3. Gastro intestinal hormones
  4. Nitric Oxide
  5. Acetylcholine
  6. Adrenaline
  7. Adenosine tri phosphate
  8. Vaso active intestinal peptide

Messentry function like abdominal heart and control the blood circulation and lymphatic flow. The splanchinic circulation, Gastric circulation, Renal perfusion, Hepatic function, Pancreatic function and ovarian function are determined by the messentry as an abdominal heart. Abdominal blood flow also synchronized by the messentry Enteric Nervous system. Systemic Blood pressure drops after meals called as  postprandial  hypotension. It is about  ≥ 20mmHg Systolic blood pressure drops from > 100mmHg  to < 90mmHg within 2 hours of eating

Messentric entric Nervous system. Synchronize MMC Cycle (Migrating Motor Complex). It is the intestinal house keeper. Digestion, absorption, excretion are controlled by the ENS. Synthesis of hormones , growth factor and Cytokines also controlled by the ENS. Immune system function also modulated by ENS.

The change in rhythm of MMC Cycle causes Diabetes mellitus, obesity, Alcoholism. And other functional GI disorders also modulated by deviant MMC Cycle. The pathophysiology of DM, Obesity, Alcoholism, Metabolic Syndrome, Functional GI disorders need innovative approach by the messentric pathophysiological Mechanism.

Oesosinophilic gasto enteritis  has associated with asthma. Eczema and urticaria. Messentry has a impact on above diseases. Further IgA and Lymphoid tissue protect against malignancy and messentry has anti carcinogenic function.  Messentry also control Antigenic defence Mechanism in GI tract.
