A modern electronic Chest X-Ray Machine has been provided to the Jaffna Anti – TB unit. The Jaffna District Anti- TB unit Medical Officer said that the operation of this machine commenced from yesterday at the Pannai Chest Clinic of Jaffna.
Dr. Jamunanantha gave a discourse on the machine yesterday Thursday. This Machine has been provided by the National Anti-TB Project to Anti-TB Unit, Jaffna.
Patients will be provided with this service free of charge and the treating Doctor can observe the patient while in treatment.This is the first time that such a machinery had been fitted here, said Dr. Jamunanantha.
Elaborating further he said that last year 303 TB patients were identified in Jaffna District and 12 of them died despite being treated. He further said that those who engage in Mason work and diabetes patients are vulnerable to this disease.
X- ray facilities are available at Point Pedro, Chavakachcheri Thellipalai Base Hospital and in regional Hospitals at Chankanai and Kayts.
If the patients report to the unit in the early stage they could be cured completely after 2 months of continuous treatment, he said.
