More benefits to Fresh water fishermen through Fresh water fish breeding, says Aqua culture Officer

Fresh water fishermen had  benefited by Fresh water fish breeding in Vavuniya, said the Officer in Charge for Aqua culture Authority for Vavuniya and Mannar Districts, Yoganathan Nishanthan.

He said as above replying to questions put to him by media men regarding activities undertaken by the National Aqua culture Development Authority in Vavuniya District.

Fishlets had been released into small and large irrigation Tanks this year. Around 1.5 million of fish-lets and around 900,000  young prawns had been released into the Tanks. Fresh water fishermen in Vavuniya District had benefited from them.

The monsoon rains prevailing now have filled up the tanks and the Farmers organizations of the respective areas  are in the process of releasing fish-lets with the assistance of Agrarian Services Department and through the National Aqua cuture Development Authority, he said.
