Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he is still the President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and has the majority support in the party.
Rajapaksa said this after the SLFP Central Committee met at the SLFP Headquarters at Darley Road in Colombo this evening.
“Look at the numbers,” the Former President said in the presence of SLFP members and the media.
SLFP Parliamentarian Susil Premajayantha said that the SLFP had, by a majority vote, re-elected Rajapaksa as the President of the party.
He said that in all, 42 SLFP members had backed Rajapaksa to be the President of the party. His announcement came as an alternative group of the SLFP said they had selected President Maithripala Sirisena as the SLFP President.
