Mulliwaikkal Commemoration yard soaked in tributes of tears

8th annual commemoration of the Mulliwaikkal genocide of Tamil people was observed sentimentally yesterday at Muliwaikkal amidst flowing tears. Politicians, clergy of all religions and people participated in their numbers and paid their tearful tributes to their dear ones who had fallen at Muliwaikkal and other places during the merciless war.

NPC CM, C.V.Wigneswaran, Leader of the Opposition, Era Sampanthan, Party Leaders, MPs, MPcs ,  and the public were among the large gathering at Muliwaikkal Commemoration Yard.

A special feature of the commemoration is the unprecedented presence of  clergy of all religions including two Buddhist monks among them.

Opposition Leader Sampanthan participated in this annual event for the first time in its 8 year history.

At the outset of the event 3 minutes silence was observed for all who had been guzzled by the merciless dragon that is war.

The CM, C.V.Wigneswaran delivered the memorial oration. The day is not far for all Tamil people will raise a united voice calling for the Tri-Forces to get out from our motherland.

He was followed by the Leader of the Opposition Era Sampanthan, who queried the Government as to whether a situation has been created where a war will not occur again.

Main memorial flame was then lighted by the CM. Leader of the Opposition offered more camphor into the flame to make it brighter.

Others followed suit and lighted many other flames amidst wailing and flowing tears.

While Sampanthan was speaking one reporter shouted at Sampanthan as to why he is here after congratulating the Government in Parliament for eradicating Terrorism. However, he was pacified by the other media-men. One emotionally worked up woman shouted at the leaders not to play politics here.

As part of his week long commemoration, M.K.Sivajilingam, accompanied by MPcs, Ananthy Saseetharan and Thavarasa, held the final commemoration in close proximity of the main Commemoration yard, which was somewhat disturbing the main event.
