Mullikulam Land Affair – Navy again go back on their words

A  team led by Charles Nirmalanathan brought to the notice of the State Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene that the promise of the Navy commander on the Mullikulam lands. Mannar Vicar General Victor Soosai and another person accompanied the MP for this meeting. It was reported that the Minister of  Re-settlement D.M.Swaminathan  accompanied the State Minister for Defence.

The owners of the 244 acre occupied by the Navy, had been engaged in a long struggle to get their lands released. In a context of 27 houses being found, Navy Commander promised theat all lands except 44 acres will be released.

Although lands were released following the Navy Commander’s promise, only around 100 acre were released. The Navy people had not fulfilled even the promise of their Commander. The Commander asked for 8 months to release the 44 acre with 27 houses. 4 months have passed after the requested deadline, they pointed out in their meeting with the State Minister for Defence.
