The three suspects of the murder case of SI, Hemachandra , the former body guard of Justice Ilamncheliyan were released under bailed with strict conditions.
A police officer, on a motor bike, providing security to the vehicle of the High Court Judge, Ilancheliyan was waylaid and shot down with his own pistol by person. (Posthumously promoted as ) SI, Hemawage Sarath Hemachandra and another police officer were injured in the incident. SI Hemachandra succumbed to his injuries at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
This incident occurred on the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple South Road on July 27th , 2017. Two days after the incident, the main suspect in the incident, Selvarasa Mahinthan surrendered to the Police. Following inquiries on him, Balasingam Mahendrarasa and Selvarasa Jayanthan were arrested by the police.
AAL Remidius appeared for 1st suspect and Shamini Wigneswaran appeared for the other two and submitted bail applications. As the suspects were kept in remand for 16 months now, they do not have any objection in granting bail to the suspects, the State Counsel reported to the court.
Jaffna High Court Judge, Annalingam Premasankar ordered that each suspect to deposit cash bail of Rs. 200,000/- , two surety bails worth Rs.500,000/- and all suspect should sign at the HC office every Friday and that their foreign travel is prohibited.
