The Housing scheme that was to be undertaken with the funds from an Arab Country in around 15 acre of Agricultural Lands belonging to people of Kokkupadaiyan village, coming under the Musaly DS Division has been suspended. The Divisional Secretary of Musaly after receiving complaints from the people went to the spot and suspended the construction.
15 acre agricultural lands are lying behind the Musaly Bus stop. The residents of the area got displaced in 1990 due to war. They resettled in the area after 10 years. Although some of the land deeds have been lost during the displacement, most of them were issued with deeds and Kokkupadayan village people engaged in agriculture in those lands.
Currently, foundation stone has been laid for 45 houses in these lands. These houses are reported to be constructed with financial aid from an Arabic Country. Area people, accompanied by the Chairman of Mannar Town council, Gnanapragasam Antony Davidson, vice Chairman and members and handed over a memorandum to the Divisional Secretary.
The Divisional Secretary, K.S.Vasanthakumar, received the memorandum, immediately visited the spot along with Land Officers and after inspecting the situation ordered to stop the construction work.
The foundation for the housing scheme has been laid without getting any permission from me. Action will be taken to make the people with proper document will be made available in a legal way. Inquiries will be made and relevant factions will be informed, he said.
