The Supreme Court has decided that the provisions in the bill titled National Medicines Regulatory Authority were consistent with the Constitution.
This was announced in Parliament by the Speaker Chamal Rajapakse. Speaker Rajapaksa announced :
‘ I have an announcement to make regarding the Bill titled National Medicines Regulatory Authority. The Bill certified by the Cabinet of Ministers as urgent in the national interest was referred to the Supreme Court by the President in terms of Article 122 (1) (9b) of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has determined that in terms of Article 123 of the Constitution that the provisions of the bill are not inconsistent with the constitution subject to the amendments stated in the determination. I order that the determination of the Supreme Court be printed in the official report of today’s proceedings.”
