National Medicines Regulatory Bill before the House
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority Bill was presented in the House by Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne yesterday. The Bill will be taken up for debate on Wednesday. A full day’s debate from 9.30 a.m to 6.30 p.m has been facilitated for the Bill.The Bill is based on the Prof. Senaka Bibile Drug Policy.
It would provide for the establishment of a regulatory authority for the registration, licensing, manufacture importation and all other aspects pertaining to medicines, medical devices, borderline products and for the conducting of clinical trials in a manner compatible with the National Medicines Policy. The Bill will repeal the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Act No. 27 of 1980.
