“The Navy has refused to release state lands in Kankesanthurai even for Governments Development project. Hence, it has been decided to construct the tanks in 10 acre land belonging to Cement Corporation. The Government had decided to store adequate fuel in the North itself.”, said Minister of Petroleum Chanthima Weerakody said.
Minister Weerakody was on a visit to Jaffna and met the Navy officials in the Navy’s Northern HQ and discussed about constructing storage Tanks in the land belonging to the Government Hospital on which the Navy HQ was located. The Navy senior officers had directly said to the Minister that they will not allow the construction of fuel tanks in an area where their HQ is located.
It has been planned to transport by train and store the fuel in the North as transporting by bowers are very risky, and necessary railway lines will be constructed he said. He also requested the Thellipalai MPCS to find suitable land for the construction Fuel filling station. He also inspected a location at Antonypuram for locating a Tank farm.
