New constitution should be adopted with ratification of people of all three races, sampanhan insists

Former constitutions were not adopted with the consent of the people or a large number of political parties. Hence, the new constitution should be adopted with the ratification of all people, said the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the TNA Era Sampanthan.

The event for handing over the Sampur – Navalady main road to people after renovation was held at the Navalady junction yesterday. He participated as the Chief Guest and as above while delivering his address to the gathering.

We are able to observe that reconciliation and understanding have formed among all people living in this country. This is also the policy of the present Government.

All the people have to live united.  If we live united unnecessary problems will not be created. All should act with understanding.

The Parliament has been converted into a constitutional council and actions are pursued to create a new Constitution which will be adopted with a two-third majority. But it should be a constitution which is ratified by the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people. Such kind of effort is being taken by the Government.

The displaced people of the North and East had not been re-settled with their needs fulfilled. We are insisting with everybody meet that this should be done. The people also should understand this and cooperate with us, he said.

Several people including, TNA MP, K.Thurairatnasingam, Governor of the East, Austin Fernando, Ministers of EPC, S.Thandayuthapani, Ariyawathy Gallapathy,  K.Thurairajasingam and EPC TNA Member K.Nageswaran  participated in the event.
