Chairman of The Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms (PRCCR) Lal Wijenaike has stated that the new Constitution should support efforts towards national reconciliation as it would go a long way in bringing Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) into the country.
He stated that the concept that there should be social justice which had been dismantled little by little, starting from 1977. The government is attempting to establish an environment of political stability. The core problems of being short on capital and technology can be tackled by FDIs and promoting them. We should have skilled labour that can be used along with other resources which must be there.
He explained that today, the economy is shattered, in shambles and in pieces. Building an economy cannot be done in one or two days, unlike the restoration of democracy, which has now been done to a large extent, where people are free to act without fear and the rule of law applies.
