Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has observed that his government is committed to enact a new constitution in the island to promote a new culture of consensual politics for peace and unity.
He was addressing the House greeting the new Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on his assumption of duties yesterday. He went on that the framing of constitution to include several reforms is a concept of his party. It is the concept of the UPFA. It is an initiative of President Sirisena. It is a verdict of the people.
He added that one would wonder how these parties that attacked each other from political platforms during the polls could work together. That is the task before the new government. That task of consensual politics reflecting in the House lies on the shoulders of the Speaker.
