Non-military Governor for North

The government has appointed a non-military, civil servant H.M.G.S. Pallihakkara as the Governor of the Northern Province. He had served as Sri Lanka’s diplomat in the UN. He had also been a member of the LLRC.

The appointment meets the demand of the Tamil National Alliance and particularly of the Northern Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran for a long time.
