North and East should become secular on a Federal basis, the wish of the NPC CM

I rebuke bringing North and East under the umbrella of ‘Buddhist Country’. All the other 7 Provincial are inhabited by Buddhist in majority, Buddhism could be given priority. The North and East should become secular on the basis of Federal System, said the CM.

Elaborating further said that, Sri Lanka was ruled as separate kingdoms. When the British integrated the country the Tamil people who lived in majority in North and East were made minorities in Sri Lanka. The Sinhalese Politicians who accepted the country as Sri Lankans later started thinking as Sinhalese. Tamils and Muslims etc.

1949 – voting rights of hill country people were taken away from them

1956 –  ‘Sinhala only’ act  took away rights of Government servants.

Standardization grabbed the education opportunities of Tamil students.

State colonization helped the Sinhalese to grab the lands of Tamil people.

Hence I rebuke bringing North and East which had rejected  Buddhism under the umbrella of ‘Buddhist Country’, he said.
