North rises in support of Plantation workers. Protest rallies in Jaffna and Vavuniya

For the third day, demonstrations in support of the plantation workers who are on a strike demanding pay rise, from last 26th, at two locations, in Jaffna and Vavuniya. The Plantation workers had rejected the offer of Rs.750/= by the Owners Society, and demanding Rs.1,000/=  daily wage   and 6 days work.

A rally organized by the Centre for Women’s Development was launched from Sathira Junction and proceeded along the main Bus stand, Muneeswarar Road to Weerasinham Hall and a meeting was held there.

Commenting on the rally, the chairperson of the Centre, Mrs. Saroja Sivachchandran said that large number of women are struggling for their wages and their rally was organized in support of them.

In Vavuniya,  the Protest rally organized by the Public  Organizations, was launched from Sinthamany Pillaiyar Kovil and proceeded along main road to the Bus stand. After holding an attention drawing protest in the bus stand, the rally continued to the District Secretariat, held another attention drawing protest before handing over a memorandum to the District Secretary, M.P. Rohana Pushpakumara.

Mp, Sivasakthy Ananthan, NPC Health Minister P.Sathiyalingam , Members, S.Mayuran, M.Thiyagarasa and several others took part in this rally.
