Northern fishermen have expressed disappointment over the attitude of new movement, and they have said that the Colombo government failed to consult them before the president’s visit to India.
“We are the most affected people by the Indian fishermen’s poaching into Sri Lankan seas.
We have some doubt whether the new government is neglecting our concern like the previous movement.
President Maithripala Srisena had some discussions with fisherman organization before leaving to India, but no fisherman organization from north was invited to that particular meeting.
We have expressed our concern about the illegal fishing of Indian fisherman to Northern Provincial Council fishing Minister and Chief Minister. But we don’t get chance to represent in the meetings of president” They said.
