More Northern players will secure places in National Football Team: Chief-Coach Danistan express hope

Days are not far for the Northern players to secure places in the National Team, said the Chief- Coach of the Football Academy , specially created for coaching Football to players of Northern Province Schools, M.Danistan Wijeyakumar.

A Football Training Academy was officially established 1st of this month with an objective of developing Football in the Northern Province. This Academy will provide training to boys and girls between the age groups of 5 to 16 years. Danis Wijeyakumaran had been appointed as the Chief Coach at this Academy.

The objective establishing this academy is to develop best Footballers in the Northern Province. This Academy is operating with the assistance of Sri Lanka Football Federation. 105 students have enrolled so far with us. We are providing training to students between the ages of 5 to 16, free of charge. Currently we are providing training on Saturdays from 8 – 10 a.m. and on Sundays from 9.30 to 11 a.m.

Marked improvement is observed in School Football and Club Football Matches. Through this we can make it easy for Northern players to secure places in the National Team. When the selections are held for the National pool, our players had to get being unable to show out their skills. The main aim of the Academy is avoid this, he said.
