We are in position of being unable to protect our environment and Marine resource because of the inability of NPC to enact a proper statute for the Province, said the Provincial Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Sivanesan.
124th sitting of the NPC was held yesterday presided by the Leader of the House, C.V.K.Sivagnanam.
Speaking on a resolution tabled by T.Raviharan, regarding mining of Mineral resources, the Minister said as above.
Tabling his resolution Raviharan said that the excavations for Pulmodai Minerals Sands Corporation are to be undertaken on a long stretch of land from Kokkilaqi to Kookuthoduwai. It is not appropriate that the excavations are done without consultation with the PC under which the stretch comes. If there are any features that are detrimental to people they should be inquired into. Hence the NPC should study this problem and institute a situation that the NPC is responsible for this stretch of land.
After hearing the opinions of the members, the leader of the house said that the matter will be informed to the President and the Prime Minister by letter.
