School communities and public organizations have pointed out that students dropping out from School in Kilinochchi and Mulaitheevu districts is on the increase.
The number of students dropping out from school and irregular attendance had increased suddenly in the backward villages in these districts they said. Various factions have requested that, parents, social well wishers and officers relevant to this matter should pay increased attention on this matter.
Particularly, the dropping out and irregular attendance have increased in the villages of Theravil, Visuvamadu, Udaiyarkaddu and Thunukkai and Manthai West of Mulaitheevu district.
These dropping outs and irregular attendances are caused by economic crises of the families living in these backward villages and the lack of transport facilities, pointed out several principals of schools in these areas. Likewise the dropping out and irregular attendance have increased in the backward villages of Kilinochchi district.
More than 100 students who had dropped out or with irregular attendance had been sent schools and children’s homes as per orders from court in Kilinochchi District. However they said that even now this number is found to be increasing.
