Observe Muliwaikkal Commemoration sans politics, requests the Jaffna Diocese Commission for Justice and Peace

The Jaffna Diocese Commission for Justice and Peace had stated that it is appropriate that, the Muliwaikkal Commemoration be observed beyond Party Politics.

The President of the Jaffna Diocese Commission for Justice and Peace,Rev.Fr. Mangalarajah said this speaking in a media conference held at the St. Martyn’s Seminary yesterday.

Elaborating further he said that, the day that is May 18th and the place that is Muliwaikkal had gained importance historically and sentimentally.

For several years our people had encountered injustices, killed in their numbers and the effects of the cruel war are continuing.

This situation should change and our people should at least now our people should live with justice, peace and calm.

Muliwaikkal is an appropriate place for our people who had lost their children, siblings, members of their families and their loved ones to cry over them, and comforted and to pray in a special way to Gods  of any religion. The appropriate day for that is May 18th.. It is the duty of all of us to provide field conditions and contexts for that. We also think that it is appropriate to observe this event beyond party politics as the University Students have requested.

The Students and the people are engaged in cleaning task in preparation for this. The objective of the event is to pay homage to the fallen, pray for them to Rest in Peace and comforting their sorrowing relatives.

There is no place here for criticisms, particularly those targeting other parties.

Hence we request all those who are to participate in this event to create a context conducive to pray to Gods for the Dead to Rest in Peace.
