UPFA Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena has charged that the Chief Opposition Whip post should not have been offered to JVP.
Earlier, Tamil National Alliance Leader R.Sampanthan offered the post of Opposition Whip to JVP Leader Anura Dissanayake after being recognized as the Opposition Leader.
Speaking to an English daily, Dinesh Gunawardena said: ‘ Several parliamentarians contested the parliamentary poll as UPFA candidates and among them only the Sri Lanka Freedom Party members joined the government, while those of the UPFA have not. That is a big difference. Therefore it is wrong that UPFA was overlooked in the recognition of Opposition Leader.’
He further argued: ‘ JVP has no right to the post of Opposition Whip. It holds only six seats. How can JVP hold such a position?’
