The Bishop of Jaffna Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam insisted with the Canadian Envoy that the pressure of Canada is needed for the Sri Lankan Government to take significant action relevant to the Missing Persons.
The Canadian Envoy who is on a three days visit to the North, met the Bishop of Jaffna diocese and had discussions with him. After the meeting, the Bishop spoke to the media and said that, he had told the Envoy that, Tamils were made to disappear during the war and after war. The Relative who are searching for them are undergoing untold miseries. The Government has not provided due answers to them. Canada should exert due pressure on the GOSL so that it will take significant action regarding the Missing Persons.
There are more than 150,000 youth are waiting for employment opportunities. The Canadian Government should undertake investments here with a view to providing employment to these youths, the Bishop had said.
In reply, the Canadian Envoy, David Maikinnan had said that, the Canadian Government is exerting pressure on GOSL directly and at the UN relevant to the problems of the Tamil people. Canada will continue to be concerned in the Matters related to Tamil people.
