Keerimalai beach was the venue, where people in their thousands on the July new moon day, yesterday to observe obsequies for their dead fathers.
Much overcrowding occurred as thousands of people congregated there and the Boys Scouts and the police had to intervene to control the crowd. The Scouts acted in a commendable way and kept the devotees from moving into deep areas. Navy personnel were on duty in navy boats in the sea area.
However due to much corals and stones present along the beach the devotees were inconvenienced in observing the obsequies.
