People’s lands in the grip of the Army, points out HRC

Law and Policy division of the HRC had said that the Army is keeping in its control the agricultural lands and residences of people in Batticaloa.

HRC officers had visited Batticaloa and reviewed the current situation prevailing there. The HRC had published a report based on information received from the public. Army men stationed in Batticaloa are engaging in Civil affairs.  The Army men are preventing the children of Muslim families from attending school and that the army is robbing the people of their agricultural produce, the report says. It had also said that although the people had started to resettle in 2011 army is trespassing into their residence to perform security duties.
