Persons in jail for long without trial must be released or allowed bail: Marapana

  

Law and Order Minister Tilak Marapana has observe that all persons languishing in jail for a long period of time without being brought to trial must either be allowed on bail or released. It is comedy that cases are pending in Courts in Sri Lanka for ten long years.

 

He said that , arrangements had been made to bail out prisoners and action is being taken in this regard after instructions being given to Attorney’s General  for this.

He explained that even LTTE suspects in prisons can be released or enlarged on bail if they have not been brought to trial for a long time.

 

He made these observations addressing an event declaring open the newly constructed Prison Complex in Jaffna yesterday. State Minister Vijakala Maheswaran, High Court Judge Elancheliyan, Parliamentarians and officials were present.

 

 

Minister Tilak Marapana also declared open the Point Perdo Police Station Complex yesterday.

Minister of prisons Thilak Marapone said in Jaffna that , arrangements had been made to bail out TPPs and action is being taken in this regard after instructions being given to Attorney’s General  for this.

 

He was speaking after opening the new Prison Complex in Jaffna.
