The Point Pedro court has proclaimed a ban on the Fasting Protest in memory of Thileepan, organized to be held at Sellachannithy temple premises today.
A fasting protest was organized to be held at the Sellachannithy temple premises, to be undertaken by Tamil Nationalist Political Party leaders, today.
Valveddithurai Police filed an application to ban the fasting protest organized by 19 politicians at the Sellachannithy Temple premises on the basis that people cannot be allowed to gather in numbers due to Corona threat.
The court after studying the application has issued an order banning any event to be held in the Temple premises for the next 14 days.
However, the Tamil parties have announced that the fasting protest will be held as planned in an alternate venue without contravening the court order.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at the entrance of the University of Jaffna, where large number of students had gathered in black clothes and the Police urging them to get into the University premises. Army was massed at the spot to assist the police.
However , Attornet at law Sugash rushed to the spot and held discussions with police and the students. Following the discussion, the police left the spot and the students dispersed peacefully.
