Point-Pedro Ponnalai road released for people’s use

The District Secretary, Jaffna, N.Vethanayagan has announced yesterday that the Army has agreed to release Point Pedro – Ponnalai road so as to facilitate people to travel from Point Pedro to the areas of Myliddy which were released recently by the Army.

Myliddy Harbour was released from a long occupation by the army last month. Most of the people displaced from these areas were staying in Point Pedro. There were difficulties encountered by these people in traversing a 4.5 Km long stretch of the PPT- Ponnali Road. Security forces are having this road under their occupation. Because of the people had to travel around 45 Km to reach Myliddy area.

In this context, the Army has granted access through the 4.5 Km stretch which was under their control. That also, in CTB buses with Army escort. A meeting will be held  day after tomorrow Tuesday at the Jaffna Secretariat to review this situation.
