Police Deploys 800 Officers To Protect Temple Trees

Strong security measures are now in place around Temple Trees in Colombo, the residence of incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told Media on Thursday evening.

It is reported that over 800 Police officers have been deployed to protect the President’s residence, under the instructions of Senior DIG Anura Senanayake. Barricades have also been set up around the Temple Trees to provide more security.

SSP Ajith Rohana said compared to the presidential elections in 2005 and 2010, this election was peaceful despite speculations of violence.

“The security plan,” the Police Spokesman said, “will also cover the city of Colombo.” The spokesman added that the Police would act strongly against any party who do not comply with election laws. The Military is also being on stand-by to assist the Police in maintaining law and order in the post-election period.

Apart from minor explosions and Jaffna and an incident in Beruwalo, no major incident happened on Thursday which was the most crucial day where the presidential election is concerned.
