Chairman of Committees Selvam Addaikalanathan has stated that the silence of President Maithripala Sirisena on the release of political prisoners is intriguing. His commitment must be renewed in the light of divergent views expressed by different ministers on the release of poltical prisoners.
Speaking in Parliament, he stated that although a promise has been made by President to release political prisoners, there have been confusing messages by different ministers.
He also added that the new government is committed to good governance, there have been no serious efforts to resolve the Tamils’ concerns. They have issues such as resettlement, release of lands in military control, release of political prisoners, development of eastern and northern provinces etc to be resolved.
