The 44th annual Commemoration of the first ever Porazhi in the history of Tamil Eelam Liberation struggle, who consumed cyanide and died to avoid being caught to the Security Forces alive was held yesterday at his native village Urumpirai.
After attacking a Bank in Kopay to get funds for the struggle, he was rounded up by the Police. He consumed Cyanide to commence a tradition of killing own self to avoid being caught alive by the enemy. In the later period this tradition became a characteristic of LTTE Porazhis , with hundreds of LTTE porazhis sacrificed their lives consuming Cyanide for protecting the secrets of the movement.
Members of Parliament, Provincial Council, Pradeshiya Sabas and general public participated in this even paid their respect to this great fighter.
Sacrificial flame was lighted, silent and floral tributes were paid and the statue of Sivakumaran garlanded , at the memorial of Pon Sivakumaran, located at Urumpirai.
