” Thai Pongal” was celebrated throughout the North, on a grand scale.
People decorated their homes with “Kolams”, cooked ‘Milk Rice’ in new pots, made offerings to the sun,and worshipped at the Temples, where special Poojas were held. Jaffna Peninsula reverberated with sounds of the crackers.
The people of Jaffna celebrated Pongal sans any Religious discrimination. Catholic Churches were decorated and Pongal celebrated with cooking Milk- rice, followed by Holy Masses in the churches.
Public and Private organisations, Companies and shops also celebrated Pongal in their respective premises.
