Preparations undertaken for Kachchatheevu St. Antonyh’s Festival to be held on Feb. 23 & 24 , says the District Secretary.
In the context of the Feast of St. Antony’s Church in the Historical Island of Kachcha Theevu to be held on 23rd and 24th of February this year, several thousand people from India and Sri Lanka, will come on pilgrimage to the Island and that all preparation are being made for the Festival, said the District Secretary, Jaffna .
The District Secretary who participated in the preparatory meeting said that, it is expected that large number of people from both countries will participate in the festival. Particularly, at least 10,000 people will join the festival from Sri Lanka. Special arrangements are being put in place in accordance with this he said.
The main responsibility for the Arrangements is being borne by the Navy, as usual. Other departments have joined in with their contributions. Permanent and temporary Toilet facilities are being constructed for the use of the pilgrims.
Adequate Boats and bus services had been arranged on behalf of the event with 200 policemen standing security for the same. The boats will be allowed to engage in pilgrims service after scrutiny and it is insisted that the passengers should wear Life Jackets. Last year Indian pilgrims did not attend the festival but are expected this year, he said.
