President Maithripala Sirisena met UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon and held talks on global issues. President Sirisena is in New York to address the 70 th sessions of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting between the two Heads of Governments took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly sessions.
The President also held bilateral talks with the President of ICRC Mr. Peter Maurer, President of Switzerland Simonetta Sommaruga and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit.
Inaugurating the session for 2015, the summit on Sustainable Development commenced with the key note address by the Pope Francis.
The Summit on Sustainable Development – 2015 which commenced parallel to the 70th Session of the UNGA will be held till September 28th.
President Sirisena is scheduled to address the 70th Session of the UNGA on September 30th.
