President opens “Tell it to the President” but leave without hearing anything

The president who gave appointment earlier to meet the relatives of persons made to disappear and the Unemployed Graduates, had left without meeting the people. Reports said he did not care for several protest that were made along his path.

The president came to the Governor’s Secretariat to open the “Tell it to the President” office there.

Earlier the relatives of the persons made disappear were protesting demanding accountability regarding the disappearance of their relatives. The unemployed Graduates are protesting demanding employment. From the very start, police and STF were massed at the spot and tried to remove the protesters away. However the protesters did not give in to their attempts and continued the protest.  Then the relatives and the graduates went in a rally to the main gates of the Governor’s office and asked to be let in. After much altercations 5 people including MPc,  M.K.Sivajilingam were allowed in. People subsided and waited for the return of the people allowed in. While those who were allowed in were waiting in the hope of meeting the president, left the office without meeting them under heavy security of STF through another exit.

This made the people by the ‘avoiding act’ of president, to block A9 and protest. Struggles occurred between the protesters and hot arguments took place between the Senior DIG of Jaffna District and MPc, Sivajilingam. Much tension prevailed for some time in the area.
