Production of Dry Fish had increased in Jaffna District

The statistics of the Jaffna District Fisheries and Aqua Resources have indicated that the production of dry fish had increased in stages compared to the past months.

Further, fishing is undertaken in 14 areas in Jaffna District, including Aaliyawalai, Thalayady, Point Pedro East and West, Kankesanthurai East and West, Chandilipay, Chulipuram, Delft, Velanai, Jaffna East and West, and Chavakachcheri.

22,122 fishermen from 21,268 fisher families are engaged in fishing. Their average catch during Jan – March period is 3.5 Million Kilograms. The fish is sold in raw form as well as they are dried to make dry fish. This is around 190000 Kilograms per month. This amount had shown an increase over past months.

The production of dry fish during January is around 197,327 Kgs. This had increased to 199,000 Kgs. in March, indicating an increase.
