Protest against Charlie Hebdo in Sri Lanka

After the Jumma prayer, Muslims held a peaceful demonstration against Charlie Hebdo Magazine in Kurunegala on Friday. Demonstrators told that they will submit a petition to France. Then they burnt French flag. This was the first demonstration against Charlie Hebdo in Sri Lanka.

The magazine, where nine members of staff were shot dead by Islamist fanatics, has caused fresh controversy by featuring a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed – holding a Je Suis Charlie sign – on its cover.

According to mainstream Islamic tradition, any physical depiction of the Prophet Muhammad — even a respectful one — is considered blasphemous.
