The public and public Organizations have demanded that the road stretch from Kankesanthurai- Keerimalai be released immediately. They have also demanded that they be allowed to worship at the Temple trapped in this stretch even before the road stretch is released.
The Point Pedro – Myliddy – Ponnalai road was opened for public use on April 13th. It was announced that the public could use this road from 06.00 a.m. to 07.00 p.m. A 3 Km long stretch of this road is not released so far, being occupied by Navy in the name of HSZ. People now have to travel through Maviddapuram to reach Point Pedro.
Action should be taken to release this stretch. This is not done because of the luxury palace built by former President Mahindha Rajapakse and harbour area being located in this stretch. Important roads pass along Colombo harbor. Likewise this stretch also should be opened, said the Secretary of Naguleswaram development Society, K.Nagarasa.
The crematorium used by Keerimalai people is located here. Further, our traditional Krishnar Temple is in this area. We are unable to hold neither the Temple festivals nor worship and offer poojas in the Temple. As a first step, ways and means should be found for us to worship at this, said E Balakrishnan of the area.
However, the Navy spokesman Dinesh Bandara had stated to a Colombo media a few days back that, no decision had been made to date regarding the release of the road.
