The Prime Minister Ranil has rejected the request placed forward by the Jaffna District Secretariat, to divide the Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretariat into two Divisional secretariats.
The Prime Minister said this in a special Development meeting held at the Jaffna District Secretariat. The District Secretary, Jaffna, N.Vethanayagan submitted that the 60 GN Divisions be divided under two Divisional Secretariats.
Ranil asked the District Secretary, ” You are a District Secretary . You tell me what is the basis for dividing a Divisional Secretariat into two Divisions.”, to which the District Secretary did not answer.
The PM asked whether it is necessary to divide a Divisional Secretariat just because it consists of 60 Grama Niladhari divisions.
MPC, M.K.Sivajilingam pointed out to the PM that former Minister, Late Maheswaran formed a Separate Divisional Secretariat at Karainagar consisting of just 6 Grama Niladhari divisions.
PM in answer said that Karainagar is an island and because of that a separate Divisional Secretariat was formed for that. He went onto reject the proposal for dividing the Chavakacheri Divisional Secretariat and forming a new Divisional Secretariat.
