Ranil should translate his pledge of granting Autonomy with more powers into action: Suresh Premachandran.

In the conjuncture of Ranil promising granting of Autonomy with more powers, he should make it into a reality, said Suresh Premachandran, the spokesman of the TNA and MP for Jaffna District. He said this in a meeting with the public organised today, Sunday, at the Vavuniya Outer Circle Road, by the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front, with a theme of ” Regime change and the expectations of Tamil People”

Elaborating further he said that, there is not a single phrase in the 100 day programme of the present government regarding the solution to problems of the Tamil people. There is not even a proposal to solve the daily problems of the Tamil people.

But a TNA representatives including Sampanthan, Sumanthiran and myself, met the President, Ranil Wickremasinghe and Chandrika after the President’s election. We haveinformed them of the problems of the Tamil people.

We have told them about the lands of the people forcibly occupied by the Military. On the basis of this, the Secretary of Defence had asked for list of lands that could be given to the people. They may call for lists, but our stance is that the people should be allowed to re-settle in their lands, from which they were driven away.

We had to wait and see whether all these will be fulfilled. Because, they are getting ready for a general election in April, and they think, it will be favourable for them if, they could do something to the Tamil people before going to the elections.

In this conjuncture, if we consider as to what will be the reply to our demands, no reply will be available. Hence we can’t say  anything before we could see as to what sort of stance the government formed after the General Election, will take, regarding the Tamil people.

We are open for negotiations. We have already submitted a draft for the solutions. But, does the new government ready to negotiate with the TNA and to draft a solution program? Ranil Wickremasinghe is saying that Tamil people will be given Autonomy with more powers, but they should implement what they are saying. Negotiations should take place in a proper way. Correct decisions should be reached in them. If no such decision is made, they will only be just ‘eye washes’, he said..
