Recruitment to University – Struggle, if the administration supports Ministers intervention, warns TU

The Employees Union of the Jaffna University has warned that if the administration supports the racially biased stance of the Line Minister in the recruitment of Non-Academic staff to the University, they will engage in struggle with the support of the Sinhalese Progressive forces.

Elaborating further in the Media conference held in the University they said that Minister Rauff Hakeem has included persons from his Muslim race in the list of applicants for posts that are vacant in the University for non-academic staff, overlooking over 400 persons who applied from the Northern Province.

Although a list of persons who had worked on contract basis for several years, at the Kilinochchi Campus was sent to the Ministry of Higher Education, their names had not been included in the recruitment list.

The intervention of the minister at Peradeniya University was stooped after the trade unions announced struggle against it.

Our Educational Community at the University is bent on safeguarding their posts.

If the University Administration and the Political Leadership will not intervene and deliver us with fair solution, we will rally the support of the Sinhalese progressive forces and fight against this injustice, they said.
