The number of refugees returning from Tamil Nadu has increased in recent days. 24 refugees had been arrested in four instances in one month.
Thus, 5 refugees returning from Tamil Nadu by boat through Kankesanthurai seas had been arrested yesterday along with 02 boat operators who had brought them here.
Eelam Tamil refugees who were displaced due to war to Tamil Nadu by boat and staying in camps in Tamil are appealing for easy travelling back to the country due to difficulties encountered by them in the camps and difficulties in travelling by air from Tamil Nadu.
In this context, 5 persons including a boy who were coming back by boat yesterday night were arrested by SL Navy, with Sri Lankan Territorial waters. Two boatmen who brought the refugees here had been also arrested.
A male from Kurunegala, a mother and son from Trincomalee and a husband and wife from Thondaimanaru were included in the 5 returnees.
The Navy has handed them over to the KKS police after inquiries. The KKS police is taking action to produce them before KKS Magistrate.
It is notable that returnees had brought their pet dog with them.
