Relatives of Missing give up fast on State Minister’s assurance

The fast unto death undertaken by the Society for finding out the relatives who went missing after handing over in Motherland, for the last 4 days in pouring rain was given up following an assurance from the Government.

The State Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene has made an written assurance that a high group of official will meet the society and Rev. Fathers on 9th February at 11.00 a.m. at Temple trees. The Minister of Law and Order, Attorney General Department, IGP and Minister of Justice will be the group that will meet the society.

The Chairperson of the Society for finding out the relatives who went missing after handing over in Mother land  said that they have concluded their fast after state Minister for Defence, Ruwan Wijeyawardene came directly as the representative of the Government and given an assurance in writing.

However, although a symbolic fasting organized at Killinochchi was cancelled following this, another fasting organized in support of Vavuniya fasting will be held as scheduled.
