Relatives wail in grief over graves of Tsunamy victims: Tamil homeland swept into great grief

The 12th anniversary of the victims of Tsunamy was commemorated sentimentally all over the country including the North. The main event in the North was held in Uduthurai where largest number of people was killed in Jaffna District. Sentimental homage were paid by the relatives at the Memorial shrine at Uduthurai.

The national flag was hoisted by the Divisional Secretary of the Vadamaradchchi East, Kanageswaran. Special invitees garlanded the memorial tower and the relatives paid tearful floral tributes and lighted memorial flames.

A memorial shrine and a memorial tower had been constructed at Uduthurai. Hundreds of people gathered there to pay their respects to the victims. The relatives placed offerings, paid floral and lighted flames to remembered their dead.

Speaking there the Divisional Secretary said that there is a need for this area to be declared a sacred area.

At Maruthankerny

Diviisonal Secretary, Kanageswaran presided over the event at Maruthankerny with the participation of Minister of State, Wijayakala Maheswaran, TNA’s MP, S.Sritharan, MPcs, K.Sayanthan, M.K.Sivajilingam and the NPC Leader of the Opposition, Thavarasa.

At Puthukudiyiruppu

The Memorial shrine and the memorial tower built on the Puthukudiyiruppu – Odduchuddan Road, with allocations from MP, Sivamohan was dedicated yesterday and homage was paid there for the victims of Tsunami.

Several people including MP, Sivamohan, MPc,Puvaneswaran, Divisional Secretaries of Puthukudiyiruppu and Karaithuraipattu, District Accountant, relatives and well wishers participated in this event.

At Mulaitheevu

Several thousands of people gathered at the memorial located at the beach road paid homage with all-religious prayers.

At Vavuniya

Commemoration of the victims of Tsunami were held at the Narashima vairavar Temple and at the memorial Tower built at the childrens park in Poonthottam. 2 minutes silence was observed on behalf of the victims and several politicians participated in this event.

At Mannar

Commemoration was held at the office of the Federation of Public Organizations, under the aegis of Mannar District Arts, Literary and Cultural Society, presided by its Director, A.T.Mohanraj.

2 minutes silence was observed in all the district Secretariats of the North and East. In Thenmaradchi Educational Zone, commemoration was held presided by Zonal Director of EducationS.Krishnakumar where office staff and clergy lighted candles in memory of Tsunami victims.

A memorial tower for the Tsunamy victims which was erected at Kurukkal madam in Batticaloa was dedicated yesterday and memorial flames were lighted there.
